Pep Rally for Benchmark Exams!

I was asked to be a part of something that I wasn't familiar with until today... a pep rally for academic reasons instead of sporting reasons. It was awesome! Big kuddos to the teachers and kids at Lakewood Middle School in North Little Rock. We always gear up for the "big game"...so why shouldn't we gear up in the same way for a "big test"? So proud of all of those students. Good luck on the big test!!!

  1. This type of encouragement makes kids enthusiastic toward academic achievement. I hope it catches on in other schools. Hooray for Lakewood Middle! Keep it up!

  2. If we are going to make a difference in the way kids think, we have to emphasize and encourage those things that are important. Like the NCAA commercial says, 98% of students will go pro in something besides sports. It's really ok to be smart!

  3. This was cool. As a mother of four, I know how impoertant it is to get the kids motivated. I admire the kids...this is a tough test.

  4. Yes, the kids definitely need some extra encouragement for testing. It makes the test almost seem like something to celebrate rather than to dread. Wilson Intermediate School in Malvern (Hot Spring County) has a Benchmark Block Party every year. It was held this year on Thursday, April 7 from 6-7:30. Everything takes place outside of the school. The 5th and 6th grades choirs performed a couple of songs each. Soloists sang some popular songs. Brooke Tidball Manning even came and led a Zumba session free for everyone. There was a 1 mile race for a $3 donation with gift certificates to as prizes. At the end, all the students released balloons to "do their best on the test"! It was a lot of fun and a wonderful way to get the kids ready for the test! Maybe next year you can come to our school to party with us, Christina! We'd love to have you!
